A big second half by the Buffalo Bills secured a 26-15 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
For the second straight week, the Buffalo Bills were on primetime and for the second straight week, the Buffalo Bills came away with a win. This time they were at home and playing the AFC leading Pittsburgh Steelers. However, while the final outcome was the same, how the Bills got there was very different.
The first half was not what Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills offense hoped for as they struggled to get into any kind of rhythm. The Steelers did a good job of getting pressure and it appeared to rattle the Bills quarterback. He made a few mistakes including an interception and a fumble, but he was able to recover the fumble.
The inconsistencies also resulted in Corey Bojorquez seeing more work than he is used to. The Bills entering Week 14 were averaging 2.6 punts per game but had four in the first half. The good news was that Bojorquez did well and helped to keep the team in the position battle with a 47.3 yards per punt average.
While the Buffalo Bills offense struggled, the defense had arguably the best half of football this season as they really limited what the Steelers were able to do. They forced six punts and allowed only eight first downs in the first half.
The turning point of the game came in the closing minutes of the first half as Taron Johnson was able to intercept Ben Roethlisberger and return it for a touchdown. It was the first time since 2017 the Bills defense had a touchdown.
That touchdown gave them a 9-7 lead going into halftime and that momentum carried over into the second half. The Bills offense was able to drive down the field on the opening drive and Josh Allen connected with Stefon Diggs for a 19-yard touchdown to take a 16-7 lead.
Josh Allen didn’t stop there and led the Buffalo Bills down the field for another score to push the Bills lead to 23-7. He started the second half going 8 for 8 for 108 passing yards and two touchdowns. He finished the game 24 of 43 for 238 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
The Buffalo Bills have another short week as they prepare to play the Denver Broncos in Week 15 on Saturday afternoon.
