These are the inactives for the Buffalo Bills in Week 14.
The Buffalo Bills for the second straight week enter the game relatively healthy and this means the coaching staff would need to make some strategic decisions on who is active and inactive. One of those players who would be inactive was already decided as safety Jaquan Johnson was ruled out on Friday due to an ankle injury.
Johnson has primarily been a special teams player and the coaching staff accounted for that by having Jake Kumerow active. Another option is linebacker Tyrel Dodson, who is active for the first time since Week 6. The backup linebacker has been on injured reserve for the majority of the season but was elevated to the active roster over the weekend.
The other inactives though aren’t much of a surprise as this has been the same group for the past few weeks. Quarterback Jake Fromm has been inactive every week this year while running back T.J. Yeldon was last inactive in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans.
The other two players, tight end Tyler Kroft and defensive end Trent Murphy, haven’t been active for the Bills since before the bye week. The coaching staff seems committed to giving some of their younger players more playing time and that is why the veterans have been inactive.
At tight end, Dawson Knox has seen his playing time increase significantly and he has responded with a touchdown in two straight games. At defensive end, second-round draft pick A.J. Epenesa has also had his playing time increase and has been playing roughly a third of the team’s defensive snaps the past few weeks.
Another player who has seemed to work his way into the rotation is defensive tackle Harrison Phillips, who is active for the third straight game. The past two games, Phillips has played at least 25% percent and should see a similar workload.
The Buffalo Bills Week 14 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers starts at 8:20 PM on NBC.
