Cleveland Browns (9-3), 2nd AFC North

On paper, the Cleveland Browns present an inauspicious matchup for the Buffalo Bills. They are capable of running the ball effectively and they boast an elite pass-rusher who can get to the quarterback. The Bills have had their tribulations preventing teams from accomplishing both.

The Browns rank second in the league in rushing yards. Both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt have rushed for over 700 yards this season.

Cleveland’s offensive line earned top honors from Pro Football Focus as the best run and pass blocking unit through Week 13. This allows the Browns to be balanced on offense and creates a more potent play-action game. The Buffalo Bills have struggled to defend this type of offensive system this season. The Tennessee Titans benefited from excellent field position in their matchup with Buffalo, but they hurt the Bills consistently with play-action. Something the Browns offense uses well.

Aaron Donald and Joey Bosa single-handedly disrupted Buffalo’s passing offense in their teams’ matchups in Orchard Park. They combined for seven sacks and forced a total of five turnovers. Myles Garrett leads the Browns defense with 10.5 sacks and is tied for third-most in the league. On a positive note, however, no other pass-rusher for the Browns has more than five sacks.

The playoffs highlight teams’ inconsistencies. And at times this season, Buffalo has had trouble stopping the run and protecting against an elite pass-rusher. The way this matchup looks on paper, the Bills may rather play someone else in January.
