Jay Gruden, Jacksonville Jaguars

There are some questions about whether Doug Marrone will be back next year in Jacksonville. If Marrone is fired the new head coach will likely move on from Jay Gruden.

Gruden has had success as an offensive play-caller. He’s probably the least likely of these candidates to get the job in Buffalo but his track record is pretty good. He went 9-7 with Kirk Cousins leading a Top 10 offense in 2016. This was at a time that Cousins did not have a true number one receiver in Washington. Gruden wouldn’t have that problem with Stefon Diggs catching passes from Josh Allen.

The Bills have talent on offense and they are capable of scoring lots of points. Someone like Gruden would continue using his quarterback as a point guard; to distribute the ball to the open receiver and get the ball out of the quarterback’s hands quickly. Something Allen struggles with occasionally.

Gruden can certainly perpetuate the ascent of Josh Allen moving forward. If he does, he’ll catapult himself back into the ranks of head coach.
