Vernon Butler

Cap Savings: $6,850,000

The Buffalo Bills signed Vernon Butler this offseason after he came off a breakout season with the Carolina Panthers. The former first round pick had six sacks in 2019 with the Panthers and earned a two-year, $15 million contract with the Bills.

However, Butler has not had the same impact with the Bills and has been primarily a backup along the defensive line. He has played in nine games, starting four of them, and has played 37% of the defensive snaps. At this point in the season though, he only has 15 total tackles, four tackles for a loss, one QB hit, and one forced fumble.

The play of Quinton Jefferson, plus the return of Star Lotulelei in 2021, is enough depth at the defensive tackle position that the Buffalo Bills could release Butler and free up $6.85 million in cap space next season.
