Josh Allen should be back in the MVP discussion after Week 9
After his performance in Week 9, Josh Allen should be back in the MVP discussion.
Over the first four weeks of the season, Josh Allen was squarely in the discussion for MVP. And rightfully so as he threw for over 300 passing yards in three of those games and had 15 total touchdowns with only four turnovers.
However, in the next four weeks, his numbers slipped as he averaged only 211 passing yards with five total touchdowns and four turnovers.
This past week against the Seattle Seahawks, the Buffalo Bills quarterback bounced back in a big way. He was able to do what he had the first four weeks of the season by getting the ball to his playmakers, make big plays through the air and he finished with 415 passing yards, four total touchdowns and no interceptions.
After a quiet four games, Josh Allen should be back in the MVP discussion thanks to his performance against the Seattle Seahawks. He is now third in the league in passing yards (2,587), tied for fifth in passing touchdowns (19) as well as adding five rushing touchdowns this year.
As the race stands now, there are probably three other players competing with Josh Allen for the award with Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, and Patrick Mahomes being the other contenders. There is a strong case for any of these quarterbacks but they have all seen their play dip during points of the year.
This is why the play of Allen from Weeks 5 through 8 likely doesn’t set him back as much. There is essentially a level playing field over the final eight weeks of the season and the race is wide open without a clear leader.
This week against the Arizona Cardinals, Josh Allen has another great opportunity to put ‘video game’ type numbers in a game that is shaping up to be a shootout. If the Buffalo Bills are able to come away with a win, and move to 8-2 on the season, this will just be another big step towards him capturing the second MVP award in franchise history.
