Buffalo Bills come away with a 24-21 victory over New England Patriots
The Buffalo Bills move to 6-2 with a 24-21 victory over the New England Patriots.
This was a pivotal game for the Buffalo Bills as they tried to not only move to 4-0 in the division but also begin to put behind them two decades of dominance by the New England Patriots.
In a game that was impacted by the weather and was a smash-mouth, grind it out type football game, the Bills were able to come away with a 24-21 win over the Patriots.
Buffalo Bills Offense
The story of the Buffalo Bills offense was the run game as Devin Singletary and Zack Moss both had over 80 yards rushing. It was Moss though that found the end zone with two rushing touchdowns, the first of his career.
This was a game where what the Buffalo Bills were able to do was really limited by the swirling winds and they took what the defense gave them. Josh Allen only threw 18 pass attempts, completing 11 for 154 yards. Meanwhile, Stefon Diggs was his primary target with six receptions and 92 yards.
Buffalo Bills Defense
While the Buffalo Bills defense did enough to get the win, it wasn’t an impressive performance by any means. The Bills once again struggled to slow down the run as they allowed 188 rushing yards in this game and allowed over five yards per carry.
In a game where Micah Hyde had to sit out due to a concussion, it was Jordan Poyer who stepped up and led the team in tackles with 11. While Dean Marlowe, who replaced Hyde, had six total tackles, one tackle for a loss, and a key fumble recovery.
Key Moment of the Game
It wasn’t until the final minute of the game that the key moment in this game happened. The Buffalo Bills were up 24-21 but the New England Patriots were driving. The Patriots were driving down the field behind their run game and Cam Newton took the ball on a designed run to the left.
He appeared to be about to pick up a first down as Justin Zimmer came from behind and forced the fumble. This play secured the win for the Bills.
Player of the Game: Jon Feliciano
While it was the rushing game that really got going, and will draw the headings, a big reason for this game was the offensive line. While it was a team effort, Jon Feliciano was a pivotal piece on this line.
Feliciano returned from injured reserve this week and started the game at left guard. However, on the Bills’ first offensive drive they lost their starting center, Mitch Morse, due to a concussion. After the Bills finished the drive with Ryan Bates at the center.
However, after that first drive, it was Feliciano and the offense didn’t miss a beat as the run game dominated with nearly 200 yards on the ground. The way Feliciano was able to shift positions and the team continued to produce the way it did is the reason he was the player of the game.
Next Game: The Buffalo Bills will remain at Bills Stadium as they face off against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 9.
