Buffalo Bills should not wait to add Dane Jackson to the active roster
After Week 7, Dane Jackson should be added to the active roster for the Buffalo Bills sooner rather than later.
The Buffalo Bills entered Sunday’s game against the New York Jets with the question at cornerback of who would replace Josh Norman? While Cam Lewis had played well, he was questionable due to a wrist injury.
The Bills turned to Dane Jackson and by the end of the game, there was no question that Jackson is ready to contribute to this defense. He finished the game with three total tackles, two passes defended, and a big interception at the end of the first half.
However, the Bills will need to make some roster decisions to bring Dane Jackson up to the active roster. Since Jackson was brought up on Saturday from the practice squad as a replacement for the Bills placing Dawson Knox on the Reserve/COVID-19, he returned to the practice squad after the game.
The Buffalo Bills do have a roster spot currently open because they also placed Tyrel Dodson on the injured reserve last week. That roster spot could go to Jon Feliciano, who is expected to return from injured reserve this week.
If Feliciano is not able to return this week, this is an easy choice to bring Jackson up to the active roster. If he does, the Buffalo Bills would have to cut a player but it doesn’t change the decision which is Dane Jackson should be added to the roster.
However, the move to add Jackson shouldn’t just be for depth but he should be starting until he gives the coaching staff a reason to take him off the field. This was a game where the Jets had their starting outside wide receivers on the field at the same time all year in Breshad Perriman and Denzel Mims.
These two combined with Sam Darnold are talented enough to put together a strong passing attack so Dane Jackson’s performance should not be dismissed just because it is the Jets.
The starting cornerback position opposite Tre’Davious White has been an issue this season for the Buffalo Bills but Dane Jackson could finally be the answer to correct this issue.
