Defensive Line

The Buffalo Bills prior to this game tried to switch up the defensive line by having Trent Murphy and Harrison Phillips inactive hoping to get a spark from this group, primarily concerned about the pass rush. They called up Justin Zimmer and Bryan Cox Jr. and while the Bills did a better job of getting pressure on Patrick Mahomes, the run defense suffered significantly.

The Chiefs were without two starters on their offensive line for most of the game but that didn’t matter as rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire had a career high 161 rushing yards. The Chiefs as a team gained 245 rushing yards and averaged over five yards per carry.

It was certainly surprising to see the defensive line struggle as much as they did, especially coming off a week where they kept Derrick Henry mostly in check. The coaching staff will likely need to go back to the drawing board to figure out what is the best combination to maximize this group going forward.
