These are the top takeaways from the Buffalo Bills 26-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

For the second time in as many weeks, the Buffalo Bills’ defense has been exposed and attacked.

Though from first glance, a final score reading 26-17 against the defending Super Bowl champions may initially look positive; looking at the stat lines prove otherwise. Rushing for 245 yards and giving up an additional 221 through the air for a combined 446 yards, Kansas City’s offense manned by Patrick Mahomes and Clyde Edwards-Helaire accounted for 386 yards. To make matters worse, Edwards-Helaire averaged 6.2 yards per carry on 26 touches.

The defensive performance against the Tennessee Titans was a huge fall from grace for a Bills’ defense that has had the reputation of being one of the best in the league. Gone are the days of the ‘Cold Front’ where the 2014 Bills front four of Marcell Dareus, Kyle Williams, Mario Williams and Jerry Hughes terrorized offenses, this 2020 defense is the complete opposite. Ranking second in points and third in yards against in 2019, this year’s 2020 team certainly needs a spark.

Whether it is the return of Matt Milano, a free agent signing, or a player having the initiative to raise their game to the next level, if the Buffalo Bills’ run defense cannot improve drastically in a short amount of time, a deep playoff run may not be in the cards.
