These are five trade ideas that would make sense for the Buffalo Bills to complete in the next few weeks prior to the trade deadline.

Unlike some of the other professional sports, in-season trades in the NFL are not very common. This is likely due to the fact that the NFL has shorter seasons than other sports and there is a learning curve for that new player to understand the scheme and playbook. However, the Buffalo Bills under Brandon Beane have actually made at least one in-season trade every year.

In 2017, the Bills actually made two by sending defensive tackle Marcell Dareus to the Jacksonville Jaguars and then acquiring wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin from the Carolina Panthers. While the Marcell Dareus trade ended up being positive, the Kelvin Benjamin trade was one of the few missteps of Brandon Beane as general manager.

In 2018, the Buffalo Bills once again traded with the Carolina Panthers, this time sending offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse to the Carolina Panthers for a conditional draft pick. This past season, the Bills elected to trade wide receiver Zay Jones to the Raiders.

In past years, the focus has primarily been trading players who aren’t big parts of their gameplan for potential draft picks. This year though the Buffalo Bills should focus more on adding talent to help in what appears to be a deep playoff run for this team this season.

These are three trades the Buffalo Bills should consider to add players and two trades to trade players away that could bring back draft picks.
