By Jason Mattis
This is a breakdown of the trends around the odds for the Buffalo Bills heading into their Week 2 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
Week 1 is behind us and the sportsbooks across the country have revealed the odds for Week 2. According to The Action Network, the Buffalo Bills are favored by 5.5 points while the Over/Under is set at 43. Let’s analyze those numbers and see how similar numbers have played out over the past few seasons versus the Dolphins.
Buffalo Bills trends under head coach Sean McDermott
When the Bills are an away favorite, they are 3-1 both winning and covering the spread. The largest spread was 7.5 points. More importantly, two of those wins are against the Dolphins with one coming last year and the other being during the 2017 season.
When looking at the over/under, the over for the Bills is 2-2 when the over/under is between 40 to 45 points. Again, two of those games were against the Dolphins, and the over went 1-1.
Miami Dolphins trends since 2017 (McDermott era)
In the 12 games the Dolphins have been home underdogs they have won five of those games outright. Covering the spread however they are 6-5-1. Looking closer, when they are underdogs by six points or less they have covered four of the seven times. The Dolphins would go on to win three of those games outright.
As for the over/under when it has been between 40 to 45 points, the over has hit five of the seven times the spread was less than six points.
As you can see under Sean McDermott they have actually been road favorites a limited number of times however it has worked out in the Buffalo Bills favor in those games. If the Buffalo Bills have the season many expect, especially after the performance against the New York Jets in Week 1, you can bet that amount of data to analyze will increase.
