The Buffalo Bills had seven players in for a tryout, including five cornerbacks.
If the players the Buffalo Bills brought in for a tryout is any indication, they are clearly looking for depth at the cornerback position. The Bills had seven players in for a tryout and of those seven, five are cornerbacks.
The biggest name of this group is Trumaine Johnson, who was with the New York Jets the past two seasons. He was a big free agent signing for them prior to the 2018 season when he agreed to a five-year deal worth $72.5 million.
However, it was a disastrous run for the veteran corner with the Jets as he started 15 games over those two years. He finished with 65 total tackles and five interceptions last year but was benched midway through the season.
The other cornerbacks the Buffalo Bills brought in were: Breon Borders, Dayan Lake, Greg Mabin, and Cordea Tankersley.
Breon Borders previously was with the Buffalo Bills back in 2017. He was originally signed off the Raiders practice squad and spent the offseason with the team before being cut prior to the 2018 season.
Greg Mabin also has previously spent time with the Buffalo Bills in 2017. He spent time on their practice squad that year but was moved up to the active roster in October of that year but was waived shortly after.
It is not surprising for the Buffalo Bills to be looking at so many cornerbacks with a potential depth issue at the position. The team saw E.J. Gaines opt out of the 2020 season prior to training camp and before this past weekend’s game with the New York Jets placed Josh Norman on injured reserve.
The veteran suffered a hamstring injury during training camp and will now miss the next three games. This means the Buffalo Bills do have an open roster spot and can either bring up a cornerback on their practice squad, like Cam Lewis or Dane Jackson or add one of these players they worked out.
