Comeback Player of the Year: DE Jerry Hughes

Honorable Mentions: CB Josh Norman

Despite not playing poor during the 2019 season, Jerry Hughes would have liked to produce more on the stat sheet as he had the second-lowest sack total of his tenure with the Bills with just 4.5. Another older player on the edge, Hughes is 32 but his age wasn’t the reason for his fall in production.

Hughes struggled with a wrist injury for the majority of the season and was a reason his play wasn’t to the level we expect. In the playoff game versus the Texans, Hughes showed a different gear, sacking Deshaun Watson three times and he lived in the backfield. He made the NFL’s highest-paid tackle, Laremy Tunsil look silly on multiple occasions. All this with a wrist injury, Hughes still has the juice off the edge despite not getting any younger.

There are not many players on the Buffalo Bills who need a comeback season with only Josh Norman standing out as the other. Personally, I am not super confident in Norman regaining any semblance of his All-Pro form and think Hughes has a significantly better chance at returning to form.
