The Buffalo Bills could already be heading towards an issue at cornerback due to injuries in training camp.

It seems like the depth at the cornerback position is a recurring issue for the Buffalo Bills. The team tried to address it this offseason by signing free agents E.J. Gaines and Josh Norman as well as drafting Dane Jackson in the seventh round of the NFL Draft.

However, the team found out last month they would be without E.J. Gaines, who elected to opt-out of the upcoming season. The loss of the veteran certainly was a hit to their depth but wasn’t too big of a concern.

The concern lies in the recent rash of injuries the cornerback position has had. It started last week with Josh Norman, who looked to be trending to being the starter, suffered a hamstring injury. He was forced to miss practice but the good news was he was back in a limited fashion on Wednesday, according to Chris Brown with the Buffalo Bills.

While Norman appears to be trending in the right direction, the team had two cornerbacks miss Wednesday’s practice. Certainly, the biggest concern is with Levi Wallace, who is dealing with a hamstring injury of his own. As Brown notes, McDermott didn’t provide an update on what the severity of his injury is.

Since Norman was limited, and Wallace and Jackson missed, this left the Buffalo Bills with only four active cornerbacks. The players listed at cornerback on the roster that were able to practice was Tre’Davious White, Cam Lewis, Taron Johnson, and recently signed Brian Allen. However, Sean McDermott did note that Siran Neal, who primarily plays as a nickel, could play outside as well if needed.

The biggest question right now is the severity of some of these injuries which can determine how much of an issue this will be once the regular season rolls around. However, to see this position hit this early in the season should begin to raise some concerns.
