Infamous “Wide Right” jersey sold for $52,820
Whether it was a New York Giants fan commemorating the events that unfolded on-route to a Super Bowl victory or a Bills, someone paid over $52,000 for Scott Norwood‘s game-used jersey.
Mention that name Scott Norwood to any Bills fan and the first two words of out their mouth will be “wide right”. Though the former kicker has left a bad taste in the mouth of fans, that didn’t stop anyone from purchasing the jersey worn on that historic day. The jersey was listed on Heritage Auctions where it was sold.
Included with the iconic white and blue uniform of the 90s Buffalo Bills was a signed photograph of the kick moments before the outcome as we all know now to be one of the most frustrating in team history. Along with the photograph was a letter written and signed by Norwood reading:
"“This letter is to certify that the accompanying game-worn jersey was issued to me by the Buffalo Bills and worn during Super Bowl XXV versus the New York Giants. The jersey has been in my family possession since that game and is an original and is the only one I wore during Super Bowl XXV. I hope a fan enjoys wearing it as much as I enjoyed playing football in the NFL. Sincerely, Scott Norwood”"
Either love him or hate him, Norwood is a polarizing figure who will forever be attached to the Buffalo Bills. His 278 points made with the Buffalo Bills may have not been scored if it were not for him. Though he left Buffalo an enemy of sorts, he will forever be tied to the incredibly successful teams of the 90s.
