Buffalo Bills: Is ball security becoming an issue for Devin Singletary?
According to reports, Buffalo Bills running back Devin Singletary has been having some ‘fumble issues’ in camp.
After the rookie season Devin Singletary had for the Buffalo Bills, fans were excited about what he might be able to do in Year 2. He finished last year with just under 1,000 yards from scrimmage and had the most yards from scrimmage of a rookie running back for the Bills since Marshawn Lynch.
While the Bills did bring in Zack Moss by selecting him in the third round, Singletary was expected to still be a big part of this offense and possibly be that featured back. However, if there is one thing that can drastically cut a running back’s potential, as well as playing time, it is having issues holding onto the ball.
According to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic, Singletary has had some issues in practice holding onto the football. This is undoubtedly a concern considering he had four fumbles last year, which was the fourth highest among running backs. The number becomes even more alarming when the fact the other three running backs ahead of him had at least 90 or more carries than Singletary.
Earlier this week, Sean McDermott was asked about Singletary and specifically mentioned ball security from the previous day and said the Buffalo Bills running back had a good day there.
It is interesting to see the Buffalo Bills head coach specifically mention this area and it appears to be something clearly on the mind of the coaching staff.

As for Devin Singletary, the pressure is certainly on him this year because of the presence of Zack Moss on the roster. If he struggles protecting the football, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the rookie continue to earn more carries, and even possibly pass the second-year back on the depth chart.
