Buffalo Bills: Experience giving Josh Norman an edge in CB battle
It appears that Josh Norman will be going into padded practices with a slight edge over Levi Wallace for the starting Buffalo Bills cornerback job.
One of the top training camp battles for the Buffalo Bills is undoubtedly at the cornerback position opposite Tre’Davious White. The team has last year’s starter, Levi Wallace, returning but also brought in Josh Norman this offseason.
At one time, Norman was one of the best at his position and this was at a time he was playing in Sean McDermott’s defense when both were with the Carolina Panthers. However, Norman left the Panthers to join Washington and failed to find the same level of success.
He now is joining a Bills defense that if he plays near a level he did the last time he played for Sean McDermott, it could propel this group to being the best defense in the NFL. This is certainly a big if because he is four seasons removed from that year.
Recently, Leslie Frazier met with the media and provided a little insight into where the competition stands. It appears that the experience Josh Norman has in this defense has given him a slight edge heading into padded practices next week.
"“Well you know with the experience that Josh [Norman] brings to the table, I mean that really sets him apart in a lot of ways but he’s coming in with a chip on his shoulder. Things didn’t end the way he wanted them to end in Washington so hopefully that’ll bold well for us.”"
That 2015 season for Josh Norman was special and was the only year that he was named to the first-team All-Pro. He was a key piece on that defense and helped his team reach Super Bowl 50, where they eventually lost to the Denver Broncos.
While Josh Norman may have the experience, and appears to have an edge, Levi Wallace has been fighting to keep his position since he joined the Buffalo Bills. This will be highly competitive and neither player will likely be willing to concede at any point during training camp.
