Buffalo Bills: 2020 Season Outlook for Dawson Knox
Can Dawson Knox break out in his second season with the Buffalo Bills?
The Buffalo Bills selected Dawson Knox in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. When they picked Knox out of Ole Miss they saw an athletic tight end who had all the physical tools to be a dynamic weapon at the position but needed time to develop.
The thought at the time was that Tyler Kroft, who the Bills signed as a free agent that offseason, could be the veteran and they could bring Knox along slowly. However, a foot injury cost Kroft the first half of the year and Knox was asked to step in as a starter.
During his rookie season, Knox certainly flashed that athletic ability with highlight reel stiff arms or one handed catches like this one against the Baltimore Ravens. However, there is also plenty of room to grow, especially with the dropped catches.
2020 Season Outlook for Dawson Knox
This season opportunities for all the playmakers in this Buffalo Bills offense could be a little tougher to come by as Josh Allen has more weapons and can spread the ball around. However, Dawson Knox is a unique player at the tight end position for this offense and he is one player that could actually improve his numbers this coming season.
The biggest thing for Knox is to improve on his drops, he had the highest drop rate among tight ends at 12%. The second-year player was well aware of that and this is something he has been working on this offseason.
Last season, Dawson Knox finished the year with 28 receptions, 388 receiving yards and two touchdowns. While all these numbers should all improve, the biggest potential is in the red zone and he should become Josh Allen’s favorite target in this part of the field.
