SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – DECEMBER 22: Tight end Charles Clay #85 of the Arizona Cardinals makes a catch over cornerback Akeem King #36 of the Seattle Seahawks during the game at CenturyLink Field on December 22, 2019 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Abbie Parr/Getty Images) /

Akeem King will play the Big Nickel Role

The former Seattle Seahawk was signed on August 2nd to provide depth at the cornerback position, but due to his great athletic profile he could provide more.

Drafted in the seventh round in 2015 by the Atlanta Falcons, Akeem King seldom appeared during the 2015 season, only playing five games in a limited role. The Falcons draft pick wouldn’t appear in any games in 2016 and would eventually sign with the Seattle Seahawks for the 2017 season where he would spend the season on the practice squad. Finally signing to the active roster in 2018, King would spend the next two seasons with the Seahawks, not contributing too much.

King appeared in 29 games over the last two seasons, accumulating 38 tackles and 2 passes defended. Playing a career high 25% of the defensive snaps last season for Seattle, King saw an increased role, where he would fill in at points at nickel, a position the Buffalo Bills would be interested in him filling.

At a long 6’1″ and 215 pounds, King has great size to play the big nickel position, with a similar size profile to contender Siran Neal. King’s only quarterback hit on the season came versus the Vikings where he blitzed the B gap and almost recorded the sack:

If Buffalo does employ King at the position, his athleticism and size should be effective on the field.
