Free Agents with Panthers connection

It is no secret that the Buffalo Bills like to lean on their connection with the Carolina Panthers, as evident of the team adding A.J. Klein, Mario Addison, Daryl Williams, and Josh Norman just this offseason. If the Buffalo Bills need to replace Tre’Davious White, then there are two free agents that could make sense.

The first is a cornerback who was actually drafted by the Buffalo Bills, Ross Cockrell, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. While he never played for Sean McDermott, he has spent the past two years with the Carolina Panthers and played for Eric Washington, who was defensive coordinator during that time and is now with the Bills as defensive line coach.

Cockrell has started 43 games in his career and has five interceptions since 2017.

The other cornerback is Bene Benwikere, who played for Sean McDermott from 2014 to 2016, when he was released midseason. Since then he has joined seven different franchises but has played in only 27 games, starting only eight of them, during that stretch.

Benwikere, similar to Josh Norman, has had his best success while playing in McDermott’s success. If the Bills were to add him, there wouldn’t be much of a learning curve and he could provide some good depth with a potential of earning a starting job with a strong training camp.
