According to reports, the Buffalo Bills signed free agent guard Brian Winters on Monday.
The Buffalo Bills found out last week they were going to lose guard Jon Feliciano at the start of the year due to a torn pec. On Monday, the team signed his replacement, reportedly agreeing to terms with Brian Winters, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The Bills obviously moved quick to strike a deal with Winters who was released yesterday by AFC East division rival New York Jets. Winters was drafted in the third round by the Jets in 2013 and over the past seven years has started 79 games at right guard. This past season he started nine games but missed the last part of the year after being placed on injured reserve.
According to Pro Football Focus, Winters allowed only one sack last year and was called for two penalties in 526 snaps.
This was a smart move by the Buffalo Bills
Once again Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills front office make the right move by going out and adding Brian Winters. The Bills are clearly in win now mode and once they lost Jon Feliciano, it makes sense to add a veteran like Winters.
This addition once again gives the Bills coaching staff the flexibility to make changes on their offensive line if they choose to. After the news broke of Feliciano’s injury, it would have made sense for them to commit to Cody Ford at right guard.
However, it would have resulted in more change to the offensive line, a group that was going to bring back all five starters prior to Feliciano’s injury. The addition of Winters now gives the Bills a player they can plug right in at right guard in place of Feliciano and still allow Cody Ford to develop at right tackle.
