The Buffalo Bills defensive tackle found out that his charges from an arrest in May have been dismissed after blood results came back negative.
Earlier this offseason Ed Oliver made headlines after he was arrested in May and charged with DWI and unlawfully carrying a firearm. According to the report by the Montgomery County Sheriff Department, Oliver was originally pulled over after a call came in that the Buffalo Bills defensive tackle was failing to maintain a lane and driving dangerously.
According to Mark Berman of FOX26 in Houston, those charges were dropped after the blood results came back negative. Houston attorney Gary Patterson also confirmed that the charges for unlawfully carrying a firearm were “automatically dismissed because it’s only illegal to have a pistol in your vehicle if you’re intoxicated.”
Since all charges have been dismissed against Ed Oliver and the blood results came back negative, it would stand to reason the chances of a potential suspension from the league would drop drastically. The Buffalo Bills also released a statement after the news broke of the charges being dropped against Ed Oliver.
This is certainly good news for both Oliver and the Buffalo Bills. Ed Oliver was the ninth overall pick by the Bills in last year’s NFL Draft. He had a slow start to last year but finished really strong and ended the year with five sacks.
Entering 2020, the Bills are expecting to pick up right where he left off and be a starter from the start. The defensive tackle position lost Jordan Phillips, who led the team in sacks with 9.5, but added Quinton Jefferson and Vernon Butler in free agency. They also will be getting Harrison Phillips back, who tore his ACL in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Even with all the new pieces, Ed Oliver is going to be key to their success. He is an athletic defensive tackle and is a pivotal part to the Buffalo Bills defensive line and defense as a whole.
