Some players from the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft has gotten record-setting contract extensions this offseason. Is the Buffalo Bills cornerback next to join them?

This offseason there have been some record setting contract extensions, ranging from Christian McCaffrey’s four-year, $64 million deal that made him the highest paid running back in NFL history, Pat Mahomes, who got a 10-year extension that was the richest in American sports history and most recently Myles Garrett getting five-years for $125 million, which is the highest average salary for a defensive player ever. The question now is could Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White be on the verge of making history?

Cornerbacks in the NFL have recently gotten big deals with Xavien Howard receiving five-years, $75.2 million last year and then the Miami Dolphins gave out a five-year, $82.5 million contract this offseason to his new teammate, Byron Jones. In terms of average salary, the Philadelphia Eagles extended Darius Slay with a three-year, $50 million that edged Jones in terms of average salary at $16.68 million per year.

However, there are a number of young cornerbacks that will be looking for new contracts over the next year, one of them being Tre’Davious White, that could reset the market for cornerbacks.

It has been awhile since the Buffalo Bills have had a player who was worthy of being paid as one of the top players in the league but Tre’Davious White certainly has done enough to warrant a record-setting deal.

The Buffalo Bills drafted White in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft and has been a starting corner for this defense ever since. He has produced at an above-average level and had a true breakout season last year with six interceptions, which was good enough to be tied for the league lead, and was selected as a member of the first-team All-Pro team and made his first Pro Bowl.

The first round of the 2017 NFL Draft had some impact players like Mahomes and McCaffrey that should be stars in this league for year’s to come. The Buffalo Bills should not wait to lock up Tre’Davious White to a new deal, even if it means they will make him the highest paid cornerback in league history.
