How does Josh Allen manage expectations?

Josh Allen is entering his third year in the league and the expectations are going to be at an all-time high. He will lose that built-in excuse young quarterbacks have that mistakes or lack of production can be written off as he is still learning the league.

The Buffalo Bills are a team that is expected to compete for a division title after two playoff berths the past three years and with Tom Brady leaving the AFC East to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The recent success, combined with the playmakers this offense now has with Stefon Diggs joining John Brown and Cole Beasley, really puts the pressure on Josh Allen.

That jump from Year 2 to Year 3 is tricky for quarterbacks and sometimes it can make or break their career. Fans don’t need to look much further than Mitchell Trubisky with the Chicago Bears. The former second overall pick made a jump in his second season in 2018 but didn’t necessarily regress based on the stats, but also didn’t continue to improve.

This lack of development essentially forced the Bears hand and they traded for Nick Foles to compete for the starting job and elected to not pick up Trubisky’s fifth year option. This third season is critical and the expectations the Buffalo Bills have means that there is going to be major pressure on Josh Allen to perform this coming season.
