Who wins the third quarterback job?

The first question the Buffalo Bills are going to need to answer is if they want to have a third quarterback on the roster. Last year, the Bills elected to go with only two on the 53-man roster with Allen and Barkley.

However, this offseason the Bills made one of the surprising moves of the NFL Draft when they selected Jake Fromm out of the University of Georgia. He was considered one of the better quarterback prospects but slide down the board until the Bills picked him in the fifth round.

The selection of Fromm gives the indication that the Bills are likely to carry three quarterbacks this season. While it would make sense that Jake Fromm is going to be that third quarterback the Bills do also have Davis Webb on the roster.

The former third round pick by the New York Giants spent the past year with the Buffalo Bills on their practice squad. He knows the system, and the coaching staff knows what he brings. In an offseason that all communication between coaches and players has been virtual, it could set rookies back in their development and their place on the roster.

While Jake Fromm is likely the favorite and the Buffalo Bills probably don’t want to run the risk of putting him on the practice squad, it is not fair to completely count out Davis Webb and his chances to make the team as the third quarterback.
