The Buffalo Bills had a lot of turnover on their defensive line this offseason, and in turn have added more versatile players which should only improve their play next season.

The Buffalo Bills lost two mainstays on their line due to free agency this offseason when Shaq Lawson was signed by the Dolphins and Jordan Phillips was signed by the Cardinals. Replacing 16 sacks is never an easy task, especially as the two were the leading sack getters for the team in 2019.

Brandon Beane was fine with letting them walk, if he was interested in bringing them back he would have found a way to pay them. Instead he believed he could improve the line through free agency and the draft.

Sean McDermott loves versatility on his defensive line and the additions of Quinton Jefferson, Mario Addison and Vernon Butler through free agency and A.J. Epenesa by way of the draft brings that element to this defense. It will be very interesting to see what combinations McDermott will use along the line.

Assessing the way McDermott has divided the snaps through his first three years in Buffalo and his stay in Carolina, should give us a gage on how often each player on the line will play.
