If Colin Cowherd was to buy an NFL franchise, Buffalo Bills’ head coach Sean McDermott would be one of his top choices for head coach.

Recently, Colin Cowherd gave his list of 10 coaches that he would want as head coach if he was to buy a franchise and Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott was near the top.

He gave five criteria for how he made his selections which included the age of the coach, coaches who are easy to work with, coaches that were not controversial, coaches who were innovative and finally coaches who could relate with their players.

Based on that framework, it was no surprise to see Sean McDermott near the top of the list as he was the second highest, and Cowherd said that McDermott is the most underrated coach in the league. The only coach Cowherd would take over McDermott was San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Sean McDermott has quickly changed the perception of the Buffalo Bills

When the Buffalo Bills hired Sean McDermott as head coach in 2017, there was certainly some skepticism. He had been a long time defensive coordinator who to that point was never a head coach in the league.

There is no question that skepticism quickly went away as McDermott, along with general manager Brandon Beane, has turned this franchise around to the point that they are legitimate playoff contenders seemingly on a yearly basis. He has gotten the Bills to the playoffs in two of the last three years, ending the playoff drought in his first year with the franchise.

As Cowherd mentions, the one thing that really stands out is that the Bills never seem to be out-matched or out-played, even against the better teams in the league. It is rare to see the Bills get blown out with Sean McDermott as head coach. Last season, there was only one game the Buffalo Bills lost that was more than a touchdown, which came against the Philadelphia Eagles.

It is certainly nice to see Sean McDermott receive recognition for the job he has done with the Buffalo Bills in rankings like these.
