2020 Outlook

The Buffalo Bills started last season with four defensive ends making the final roster, it seems like Johnson will have to be one of the top four to make the roster in 2020 yet again.

With Mario Addison, Jerry Hughes and A.J. Epenesa all being locks for the team in 2020, Johnson will most likely have to beat out Trent Murphy, which will be a stark contrast to beating out Mike Love in 2019.

The only saving grace for Johnson is if he shows well enough in training camp and preseason to give the Bills the luxury of cutting Murphy and saving the Bills $8,025,000 in cap space.

Buffalo won’t easily part ways with Murphy though as he led all defensive lineman on the team with 65.06% of the defensive snaps. Also contributing four sacks in the last five games of the regular season, and adding 2 more in the Bills playoff game versus the Texans. Johnson has his work cut out for him with Murphy.

If the sophomore defensive end can add some more strength to his frame making him more able to set the edge versus the run, he has a shot at surpassing Murphy but the staff will need to see significant improvement to cut ties with a veteran.

If Johnson doesn’t make the final 53 man roster he will be a practice squad candidate if he can avoid being stolen by another team.
