Carolina Panthers connection
The Buffalo Bills have added more than their fair share of Carolina Panthers since Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane joined the organization. One of the reasons is that these players have a familiarity with the coaches and the schemes they like to run.
Now that Cam Newton is in New England, this familiarity can work in the Bills favor once again. McDermott and Newton both joined the Panthers in 2011 and spent six seasons together with the organization.
During this time, McDermott got an up close and personal look at Newton during practice. He should have an idea of what Newton does well and how to scheme to neutralize that.
However, scheme is only half the battle as teams need players that can match Newton’s athleticism. This is easier said than done however the Bills have arguably the most athletic linebacker duo in the league with Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano.
Edmunds in particular could be the one player that can slow Newton. He not only has the quickness to keep up with Newton but also has the size as both are 6’5″ and Edmunds is five pounds heavier at 250.
