Not drafting a cornerback earlier

Staying at the cornerback position, since the Bills didn’t get a long term answer during free agency it felt like they would address it during the NFL Draft. However, they waited until the final round to add a cornerback when they selected Dane Jackson out of the University of Pitt.

While it is hard to argue against the picks Brandon Beane made in the earlier rounds of the NFL Draft, the fifth round felt like the right spot to get a cornerback that could contribute earlier and possibly push for playing time as a rookie.

That round the Bills elected to go with quarterback Jake Fromm, who was once considered a top quarterback but slid down draft boards, but a better move would have been trading up about 10 picks and grabbing Bryce Hall out of Virginia. Hall was a top prospect before suffering a season ending injury last year and would have been a player, if healthy, could have competed this year.

Another cornerback that would have made sense was Harrison Hand out of Temple, who went two picks after the Bills.

It will be interesting to see how that position performs this coming season but my feeling is that next offseason they will once again be looking for a starter opposite Tre’Davious White.
