Round 1, 27th Overall: Tre’Davious White, CB (LSU)

Trade with Kansas City: BUF sends 10th overall in 2017, Kansas City sends 27th overall in 2017, 3rd rounder in 2017, 1st rounder in 2018

This trade is heavy in controversy because Kansas City ends up selecting future MVP and Super Bowl MVP in Patrick Mahomes, while the Bills were still searching for a quarterback and potential replacement for Tyrod Taylor.

This is not going to focus on what Kansas City did on their end but rather for the Bills they still got one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL at 27th in Tre’Davious White.

White has enjoyed three successful seasons in Buffalo and had a breakout season in 2019 where he made six interceptions and was a first team All-Pro.

The cornerback by way of LSU enjoyed a stellar rookie season totaling 4 interceptions and 18 passes defended (career high) and was a key part of the Bills breaking their storied 17-year playoff drought. He finished his rookie season with an 88.4 overall grade according to PFF, which is his highest grade so far in his career. He was a finalist for the defensive rookie of the year losing out to fellow cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

The second-year cornerback saw a dip in his play in his second season, where he was beaten more regularly but still did a nice job of shutting down his side of the field. He finished the campaign with 2 interceptions and 8 passes defended and a poor 61 overall grade from PFF.

White enjoyed his best season in his third year and was one of the biggest reasons for the Buffalo Bills finishing 10-6 and making the playoffs. His six interceptions finished tied for first in the NFL and also added 17 passes defended. PFF gave White a 75.6 overall grade which was surprisingly low for the level he played at.

A tremendous pick by the Bills staff in getting one of the best players at his position in the league and now a lockdown corner on a great defense in the NFL.
