Micah Hyde named as the Buffalo Bills most underrated player by Pro Football Focus.

In a recent article by Pro Football Focus that identified one player on every NFL team, they named Micah Hyde as the most underrated player on the Buffalo Bills. Among all the players, this seems like the best choice.

Over the last three seasons in Buffalo, Hyde ranks tied for fifth among all players at the safety position in overall grade (90.7). The move to free safety has pulled the best from Hyde after a solid, albeit unspectacular, start to his career with the Green Bay Packers in more of a slot/box role. He now serves as half of one of the better safety tandems in the NFL with teammate Jordan Poyer."

When Sean McDermott joined the Buffalo Bills in 2017 as their head coach, one fo the first moves they made that offseason was to sign Micah Hyde. He had previously spent the past four seasons with the Green Bay Packers. As a fifth round pick in 2013, Hyde didn’t necessarily a starting role with the Packers but was key as he moved between safety and nickel for them.

In four seasons with the Packers, Hyde had 227 total tackles, eight interceptions and 24 passes defended.

However, once joining the Buffalo Bills he was moved full time to safety, playing alongside Jordan Poyer, and the two have grown into one of the premier safety duos in the NFL.

Over the course of three seasons, he has nearly matched his stat line with the Packers and has 212 total tackles, eight interceptions and 20 passes defended. He has been a key piece in a defense that has ranked in the Top 4 against the pass the past two years.

Why is Micah Hyde underrated?

Even with all the achievements Hyde has done on the field, it hasn’t amounted to much in terms of league wide accolades. He has only had one Pro Bowl selection, which came in 2017, and has not earned any first-team All-Pro nods but did make the second-team All-Pro in 2017.

There is no question that the Buffalo Bills defense is a group that is on the rise and Micah Hyde has been a pivotal part of this team. The selection by Pro Football Focus to pick Hyde among the players currently on the roster as the most underrated was certainly the right choice.
