Could the Buffalo Bills add a tight end in the 2021 NFL Draft?

The 2020 NFL Draft is only about a month past but that doesn’t mean it has stopped analysts from looking ahead to next year’s NFL Draft and begin putting out mock drafts. CBS Sport’s R.J. White put together a mock draft for the first round of next year’s NFL Draft and had the Buffalo Bills selecting tight end Kyle Pitts out of the University of Florida.

"Kyle Pitts TEFLORIDA • SOPH • 6’6″ / 239 LBSThis tight end class could have a few first-round talents, and it would actually be a bit surprising not to see one go in the top 25. The Bills seem to be a great fit for one if they’re selecting at this point of the first round, and Pitts has the receiving chops to take the passing game to the next level."

Pitts will be a junior this upcoming season and is coming off a breakout year last season. He finished with 54 receptions, 649 receiving yards and five touchdowns for the Gators. At 6’6″ and 239 pounds, he would be another athletic tight end for Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.

It is worth noting that in this mock draft, the Buffalo Bills aren’t picking until 27th in the first round. The idea

Why would the Buffalo Bills go tight end?

The Buffalo Bills under general manager Brandon Beane has not been afraid to go best player available at any point in the NFL Draft and if Pitts was there it would be hard to pass up.

However, as of today, and certainly plenty can change between now and then, this would feel like a mistake. The tight end hasn’t really been utilized much under Brian Daboll and the team could have more pressing needs.

In addition to questions at cornerback, since Josh Norman is not a long-term answer, as well as at defensive end with Jerry Hughes and Trent Murphy entering their final year of their deals, as well as Dion Dawkins and Matt Milano projected to be free agents there are a number of different directions Beane could go that makes more sense.

There is always a great deal that changes with these way-too-early mock drafts, considering the Buffalo Bills drafted two players, A.J. Epenesa and Jake Fromm, who Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller had going in the Top 5 last year.
