Buffalo Bills: Breaking down potential offensive formations in 2020
1-2 (2 WRs)
Devin Singletary (RB), Dawson Knox (TE), Tommy Sweeney (TE), Stefon Diggs (WR), John Brown (WR)
2019 Plays: 104 plays (10%)
The next two personnel groupings are tied for second highest with each running exactly the same number of plays last year at 104. However, this is one formation that is likely going to drop entering 2020.
In this formation, the Bills will have one running back, likely Devin Singletary, and two tight ends with either Tommy Sweeney or Tyler Kroft joining Knox on the field. This would then see Cole Beasley come off with Diggs and Brown left at wide receiver.
The decision on whether they run or pass out of this formation will dictate who the second tight end is. There is a strong case for putting Kroft in and giving the Bills two athletic tight ends running down the middle with Diggs and Brown along the sidelines to stretch the defense. However, if they expect to run, having Sweeney’s blocking at the position would be a boost.
