Week 6 – Sammy Watkins (Kansas City Chiefs)

This one will be a big return. A former Buffalo Bills first round draft pick and now defending Super Bowl champion will be returning to his NFL birthplace in a Thursday Night prime time affair. Sammy Watkins produced some solid numbers during the Kansas City Chiefs playoff run last season, posting 14 catches for 288 yards and a touchdown in three playoff games with the Chiefs. That included a game high seven catches for 114 yards and a key touchdown from Patrick Mahomes that pretty much sealed the victory over the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship game.

Originally selected by the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, where they actually traded their original first rounder and added a 2015 first and fourth rounder to move up and actually get Watkins. Prior to landing with the Chiefs, Sammy Watkins was traded by the Bills to the Los Angeles Rams in 2017 for cornerback E.J. Gaines and a 2018 second rounder that was later used in a package to trade up and get Josh Allen.

One possible reason for Sammy Watkins’ departure from Buffalo was recently revealed in an interview by Tyler Dunne of the Bleacher Report, where he laid all his cards out on the table. In that interview, he talks about the fact that he was drinking every night during his playing days with the Bills.

“I would go out and get wasted. Wasted wasted.”

This will be a nice homecoming for the Clemson standout. Although he had an early rough go with the Buffalo Bills, he still did have a solid three years with the team that drafted him. In 37 games played, he caught 153 passes for 2,459 yards and 17 touchdowns. He can now add Super Bowl champion to his stat sheet.
