Five-man front
Jerry Hughes (DE), Vernon Butler (DT), Star Lotulelei (NT), Ed Oliver (DT), Mario Addison (DE)
Another goal-line situation formation the Buffalo Bills could utilize is a five-man front, which is typically accompanied by two linebackers and four defensive backs, but this can be really used at any point on the field.
This type of defensive line would cause a lot of problems for opposing offensive lines because unless offenses keep a tight end or running back into block, each player is going to have a one-on-one matchup. It also isn’t necessarily a bad thing too if the offense keeps that tight end or running back in there because then it is one less option for the quarterback to go to.
The thing that this line gives the Bills is it works well against the run but also doesn’t give up much speed because outside of Lotulelei, the other four players has enough burst to get to the quarterback and collapse the pocket.
