Who won the trade?

Although the Vikings yield from this trade won’t be finalized until the conclusion of the 2021 NFL Draft, enough has happened to evaluate which general manager won the Stefon Diggs trade.

At face value, the comparison is Stefon Diggs and Dane Jackson vs. Justin Jefferson, Kenny Willekes, and next year’s 4th and 5th round selections. Presently, it seems obvious that the Buffalo Bills have won this trade.

Brandon Beane has stressed the idea that the Bills traded for Diggs because they viewed him as an immediate contributor compared to any projected wide receiver they would have selected at pick 22. Ironically, the Buffalo Bills were mocked on multiple occasions to pick Jefferson at pick 22 as the Vikings did.

When comparing the proven Diggs to rookie Jefferson, it’s an overwhelming edge for the Bills in that battle. However, comparing Dane Jackson to Kenny Willekes is practically a draw. This gives the overall edge to the Bills in this trade.

As mentioned before, this trade comparison is far from over for the Vikings and should Willekes and Jefferson have great rookie seasons it could push the bar back closer to center. Even with consistent contributions from both these rookies, the Vikings would have to draft two future Pro Bowlers with their 4th and 5th round selections next year to win this trade.

Only time will tell who has truly won the Stefon Diggs deal, but to this point the advantage is leaning heavily towards the Buffalo Bills and the leadership of Brandon Beane.
