Still time to work out a long term deal

The one looming issue if the Buffalo Bills were to work out a trade for Yannick Ngakoue is that they would likely want to get a long term deal in place before agreeing to a trade. If this is the case, the Buffalo Bills are up against a deadline of July 15th to make that happen.

The reason for that is since the Jaguars used a franchise tag, NFL teams have until that date to work out a long term deal. If no contract is agreed upon by that point, they would not be able to negotiate until the end of the season.

This is something the Seattle Seahawks ran into with the trade for Jadaveon Clowney last offseason. Since the trade took place after that deadline, they were not able to work out a new contract and Clowney elected to test free agency. If Yannick Ngakoue was able to get that close to free agency, he would likely want to test the open market to see what value he had.

The Buffalo Bills made a blockbuster trade earlier this offseason for Stefon Diggs and at this point, with the relationship between Yannick Ngakoue and the Jacksonville Jaguars not getting any better, this is a perfect time for Brandon Beane to find value and swing another major trade this offseason.
