Could one of the top remaining free agents be planning to return to the AFC East?

There is no question that the quarterbacks are going to have a tough time throwing the football in the AFC East this coming year. The New England Patriots ranked at the top in passing yards with the Buffalo Bills closely behind them last year.

Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins invested heavily in their secondary with the signing of Byron Jones and using a first round pick on Noah Igbinoghene in last month’s NFL Draft. However, the Dolphins may not be done there and they could be competing with divisional foe the New York Jets for free agent Logan Ryan.

According to Ian Rapoport, the New York Jets appear to be pursuing cornerback Logan Ryan but so are the Miami Dolphins.

Logan Ryan spent the past three years with the Tennessee Titans but started his career with the New England Patriots, playing four seasons for them and was part of two Super Bowl winning teams.

The interest in the Jets certainly makes sense as their secondary has underperformed, especially after the disastrous free agent deal last offseason with Trumaine Johnson. The Jets signed him to a five-year deal but he was released this offseason.

As for the Dolphins, it is a little surprising considering they have already invested so heavily with the two offseason additions to go along with Xavien Howard. There isn’t necessarily a clear path for Logan Ryan to find playing time so this doesn’t feel like a good fit for either.

However for the Jets, he would likely be able to step right into the starting lineup opposite Pierre Desir, who was signed as a free agent this offseason. Desir was a bit of a surprising release by the Indianapolis Colts and if he can stay healthy would be a good addition to their defense.

Since there doesn’t seem to be much competition for Logan Ryan, it appears that he will likely be returning to the AFC East in 2020. Although it is unclear with which team.
