With the 167th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills selected quarterback, Jake Fromm out of Georgia.

Though Fromm spent his collegiate career as a Bulldog, the Warner Robins. Ga., native initially committed to Nick Saban’s Alabama but made the switch in 2015. While at Georgia, Fromm threw for 8,224 yards and 78 touchdowns (second place on UGA’s all-time list) in 43 games played.

In his senior year, Fromm was quiet when compared to the other names in the 2020 draft like Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa and Jordan Love but he still went on to be one of 20 semifinalists for the third annual Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year, was named to the 2019 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and on two awards at Georgia’s post-season awards gala: Vince Dooley Offensive MVP (co-winner) and Community Service Award.

In a statement heard not just in sports but in anything team-oriented “you’re only as good as your weakest link” and selecting a quarterback addresses that exact notion. Previously, the Bills have had a sub-par quarterback room. With Allen being the starter, he has had players such as Nathan Peterman, Matt Barkley and Derek Anderson standing on the sidelines. With the addition of Fromm, Buffalo not only gets a quarterback who is capable of logging minutes if Allen gets hurt, but it also sparks competition, which makes everyone better.

With the backup quarterback position being a top 30 position, their purpose is not only being able to jump onto the field in a moment’s notice, but it’s also running scout team. This is crucial so the Bills defense can visualize the opposition they will be taking on in the coming week as well as helping Allen on gameday.

Not every quarterback who is drafted in the NFL becomes a starter which means dethroning Allen from the starting position is unlikely, but that doesn’t mean Fromm still can’t help the Bills.
