Cody Ford vs. Ty Nsekhe vs. Daryl Williams

The last position battle, depending on who wins, actually create another position battle. The Buffalo Bills will have the two players who competed for the starting job last year, Cody Ford and Ty Nsekhe, but also brought in former Carolina Panthers’ offensive tackle Daryl Williams.

All three of these players have starting experience at the offensive tackle position but all three have question marks entering the season. Last year’s starter, Cody Ford, is entering his second year in the league and will likely have the first shot at keeping the job. However, there are questions about if he is better suited at tackle or moving inside to guard.

This is where that additional position battle could come into play. If the coaching staff decides one of the other two tackles is a better option, then Ford will likely compete with Jon Feliciano for the starting right guard job.

Meanwhile, Ty Nsekhe has for his career been a premier backup at the position but never really gotten an extended chance to start. The most games he has started in a single season is five. At this point it would be a surprise if he ended up being the starting right tackle for the Bills.

The last player is Daryl Williams, who has played at the highest level at the position of any three and has the most experience. The former fourth round pick had a breakout season in 2017 and looked to be on his way to being one of the top right tackles in the game.

However, a knee injury suffered during training camp, which he re-aggravated Week 1 of the 2018 season forced him to miss the remainder of the year. This lost season was coupled with last year when he played every offensive line position except center due to the Panthers’ needs.

If Daryl Williams is able to focus solely on right tackle, and now being two years removed from his knee injury, gives him a great chance to earn the starting job. If he does, it wouldn’t be surprising for him to have a comeback season in 2020.
