The Buffalo Bills brought in Josh Norman and re-signed Levi Wallace but could they add another cornerback through the NFL Draft?

The Buffalo Bills front office was very aggressive to start free agency and outside of trading for Stefon Diggs, the focus was on the defensive side of the ball. It was certainly surprising considering the defense was the strength of this team a season ago.

One of those additions was at cornerback when they signed cornerback Josh Norman to a one-year deal. He was brought in to compete with last year’s starter, Levi Wallace, but could the Bills add more competition at the position?

In a recent article by Michael Collins at Maroon and White Nation, he mocked cornerback Cameron Dantzler to the Bills in the third round of the upcoming NFL Draft. Collins wrote about the fit of Dantzler in Sean McDermott’s defense:

"The Bills will be looking at interior offensive linemen and edge rushers early in the draft, but they can’t ignore their need at corner.Dantzler excels playing zone defense and has the instincts to react and recover well even if when losing a receiver in man coverage. McDermott’s scheme would be ideal for a tall, long corner like the former MSU star."

It is hard to argue with the logic by Collins because Dantzler does check a number of the boxes that McDermott might look for. The Bills don’t put a lot of pressure on their cornerbacks and a player like Dantzler, who is better in zone, makes plenty of sense. At 6’2″ and 185 pounds, Dantzler has the size to matchup with almost any wide receiver in the NFL.

Dantzler played in 31 games for the Mississippi State Bulldogs and over that time had 108 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks and five interceptions and 20 passes defended.

The cornerback position opposite Tre’Davious White has been a bit of a weak spot, or there hasn’t been a long term answer there for awhile. The Bills front office has tried to work through it the best they can with veteran options paired with Levi Wallace.

However, a cornerback like Cameron Dantzler could be a long term answer at the position and would have the potential to even start as a rookie. There is alot to like with the idea of the Buffalo Bills adding Cameron Dantzler.
