Buffalo Bills bring back Isaiah McKenzie, per agency

According to Isaiah McKenzie’s agency, the Buffalo Bills have agreed on a deal to bring back the wide receiver.

The Buffalo Bills agreed to a deal to bring back Isaiah McKenzie, according to a tweet by McKenzie’s agency SportsTrust Advisors.

McKenzie was a fifth round pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2017 NFL Draft and played 12 games for the Broncos over a season and half. He finished with four receptions for 29 yards but was released midway through the 2018 season.

The Bills signed McKenzie shortly after that and he has spent the past one and a half seasons in Buffalo. During his time with the Bills, he has been a jack-of-all-trades type weapon for this offense.

Over 22 games, including nine starts, he has 45 receptions, 433 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. He also 18 rushing attempts for 115 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. McKenzie has also contributed on special teams with 30 kickoff and punt returns over that time.

The question is now how much snaps will be available to him on offense with the addition of Stefon Diggs. The Bills depth chart is rather deep at the position with Diggs, John Brown, Cole Beasley, Duke Williams and McKenzie at the top. However, they also have players like Robert Foster, Nick Easley and Ray-Ray McCloud under contract as well.

The wide receiver position is going to be an interesting training camp battle to watch. The competition is going to be tough, and that is assuming the Bills don’t add any more players to the position through the NFL Draft, which is still a possibility even with the addition of Diggs.

McKenzie likely has an inside track for one of the final roster spots because of his ability to make an impact as a receiver, out of the backfield or on jet sweeps but also on special teams. This type of versatility is invaluable when NFL teams are trying to build their final roster.
