Round 5 (Pick 167): Tanner Muse, S (Clemson)
While Tanner Muse played safety at Clemson, as Lance Zierlein at NFL.com calls out in his scouting report, he will likely have to shift to linebacker at the NFL.
However, this is something that Sean McDermott has had success with over the years. The most recent example came in 2015 when the Panthers drafted Shaq Thompson out of Washington. While Thompson played some linebacker, he was more of a hybrid safety/linebacker at college.
While Muse may not be fast enough to play safety, he could fit in perfectly as a linebacker/big nickel within this defense. The Bills want their linebackers to have the quickness to move sideline to sideline and really be able to close on the ball carrier.
This is something that Muse could do well from this position. There is certainly going to be a learning curve and some development but he could be a long term answer at the other linebacker position alongside Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano.
