Buffalo Bills re-sign tight end Jason Croom
According to reports, the Buffalo Bills have re-signed tight end Jason Croom.
The Buffalo Bills continue to make moves as they ramp up and get ready for the start of free agency next week. According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Bills were able to reach a one-year deal with tight end Jason Croom.
As Yates notes, Croom spent the entire 2019 season on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury suffered during training camp. It was certainly disappointing to see him lose the entire season because he did show flashes in 2018, his first season with the Bills.
Jason Croom was the last of three exclusive rights free agents the Bills had to agree to terms as the team already signed Levi Wallace and Robert Foster to new deals earlier this week.
The team signed Croom as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee and he eventually surpassed Charles Clay on the depth chart that season. He went on to finish 2018 with 22 receptions, 259 receiving yards and one touchdown with his best game coming against the New England Patriots, when he had four receptions for 55 yards.
The question now becomes how does Croom fit within this tight end position. The expectation is that at the top is Dawson Knox and Tommy Sweeney, two players who showed a lot of potential as rookies and the hope is they will continue to grow in Year 2.
The Bills also recently agreed to a restructured contract with Tyler Kroft, essentially cutting his remaining contract from two years down to one and allowing him to be a free agent after this season.
It will certainly be an uphill climb for Jason Croom if he hopes to make an impact in 2020. However, there is talent there and he should push the players ahead of him on the depth chart.
