Buffalo Bills: 3 linebackers the team could pursue in free agency
By Casey Reed
The Buffalo Bills have to fill a void left with the retirement of Lorenzo Alexander and these are three linebackers in free agency that the team could look at.
After the Buffalo Bills loss to the Houston Texans in the playoffs, veteran linebacker Lorenzo Alexander called it a career. Alexander spent 15 years in the NFL, four of those years being with the Buffalo Bills.
He is the definition of a late bloomer as his best years came in his time in Buffalo. He never really had the chance to be a starter until Rex Ryan brought him into the fold and he had a career season that first year in 2016 with 12.5 sacks. He continued to be a solid contributor even after Sean McDermott came in and changed the defense back to a 4-3. He ended up having 24 of his 33 sacks while in a Bills’ uniform.
His retirement leaves a huge hole now for the Bills to fill not only on defense, but from a leadership perspective as well.
There are a couple of interesting options that were behind Alexander on the roster, but they are largely unproven with players like Vosean Joseph was a rookie last year and spent the year on injured reserve.
With plenty of cap space available the Buffalo Bills will have options to replace Alexander. They will need a linebacker that not only can cover but also get to the quarterback playing alongside Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano. The front office will consider these details when looking for a replacement option.
