Byron Jones

If Byron Jones is able to get to free agency, and with the number of free agents the Dallas Cowboys have this is a real possibility, he could end up walking away with the biggest contract among the free agent cornerbacks this offseason. A former first round pick, who is only 27 years of age, and already has at a Pro Bowl season is the type of player NFL teams break the bank for.

There is no question that any NFL team would love to have a player like Byron Jones on their roster. He is a big cornerback at 6’1″ that can match up with almost any wide receiver in the league and playing in the NFC East has had to go up against some of the better wide receivers in the league like Odell Beckham Jr. when he was with the Giants.

However, one of the biggest appeals of Jones is that he has experience at no only cornerback but also free safety. He was the Cowboys starting free safety in 2016 and 2017 before switching back to cornerback in 2018. This type of versatility has always been coveted by the Bills and he would be a nice backup option with Jordan Poyer entering his final year of his contract.

At this point in the offseason, it would be surprising to see the Buffalo Bills sign Byron Jones knowing the type of contract he will likely receive. However, if they want to upgrade the position there is no better option.
