Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott was named a finalist for Coach of the Year.

The NFL holds an award show the night before the Super Bowl and the Buffalo Bills will have their head coach in attendance.

According to Vic Carruci of the Buffalo News, Sean McDermott was named one of the finalists for Coach of the Year.

There is no question that McDermott deserves to be in the discussion after the Bills went 10-6 and earned their second playoff appearance in three years. He, along with Leslie Frazier, led a defense that finished Top 5 in a number of categories.

The direction the Bills are heading, this likely will not be McDermott last time being named a finalist or in the discussion as one of the top head coaches in the league.

He joined the Bills in 2017 after six years as defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers. Prior to Carolina, McDermott had a number of roles on the defensive staff of the Philadelphia Eagles from 2001 to 2010.

However in a short time with the Bills, he has changed the culture within the organization and the perception of the Buffalo Bills around the league.

After a two decade playoff drought, McDermott was able to get a team to the playoffs in his first season. While that season ended with a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, fans could start to see the foundation that was being put into place.

In 2018, the Bills had a down year but that was the biggest overhaul the team went through from cutting a ton of salary and starting Josh Allen in his rookie season for most of the year.

There is plenty of excitement around the Buffalo Bills and Sean McDermott deserves a great deal of credit for the direction this franchise is heading.
