Trent Murphy

2020 Cap Hit: $8,950,000

Dead Cap: $1,750,000

Cap Savings: $7,200,000

The player that presents the most cap savings for the Bills would be defensive end Trent Murphy, who will be the fifth highest paid player on the Buffalo Bills in 2020. However, if he were cut, it would result in over seven million in cap space.

The Bills signed Murphy as a free agent in 2018 and his first year with the team was underwhelming. He finished the year with 24 total tackles and four sacks and while he did improve on those numbers this season with 36 total tackles and five sacks, there is still something left to be desired.

The defensive end position is one of the more interesting positions to watch this offseason for the Bills. The team must decide if they want to re-sign Shaq Lawson, meanwhile have another pass rusher, Jerry Hughes, who looks to be closing in on the end of his career.

The depth at the position is lacking and the team may not be able to afford to cut Murphy because he likely will be expected to play a larger role in 2020.

While releasing Murphy would create the most cap space of any player on the Buffalo Bills, the team may not have the opportunity based on the state of the position.
